01 — What It Is
Church Jam is a free weekly run in Augusta for men 16 and up. We hoop, we eat, and somebody stands up and says one true thing. That's it. That's the whole night.
It's for the guy who was a problem in high school and hasn't played since. The guy who finished four years of college ball and misses it more than he admits. The guy who's never played organized ball a day in his life and just wants somewhere to be on a weeknight.
You don't have to be a church guy to come. Plenty of men here aren't, and nobody's going to corner you about it. A man who won't walk into a sanctuary will walk into a gym — that's most of the point.
Real runs, not a clinic. Full court, competitive, winners stay. Nobody's coaching you and nobody's evaluating you. If you can get up and down the floor, there's a spot.
Then the ball goes in the rack, we eat, and one man talks for ten minutes. Hard cap on the ten. Then you go home.
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
Proverbs 27:17
02 — How A Night Runs
No sign-in line, no waiting around wondering what's happening. You'll know the rhythm after one visit.
[6:30]
Scan your QR code at the door and you're in — takes two seconds. Then get shots up, get loose, meet whoever's standing next to you. First time? Find the guy in the Church Jam shirt, he's expecting you.
[6:50]
We split it fair. Mixed teams every week on purpose — you won't run with the same four guys all season.
[7:00]
Full court. Games to 11, win by 2, winners stay. Call your own fouls like grown men.
[8:15]
Food's out. Sit down, eat, talk. This is where the actual thing happens, and it's the part guys tell us they didn't expect to like.
[8:30]
Ten minutes. One man, one passage, no altar call, no pressure. Then we pray and you're out the door by [8:45].
Register once, save your QR code, and scan in every week. We'll text you the location and any changes.
03 — Who Plays
No upper age limit, no tryout, no résumé, no dues. Every skill level runs here, and the mixed teams keep it honest.
04 — Why Bother
Full court, competitive, mixed teams every week. Not a drill line, not a clinic, not five guys shooting around waiting for a sixth.
Open gym is anonymous by design. This isn't. You'll be missed if you don't show, and somebody will text you about it.
One man, one passage, no performance. Most guys come for the ball and stay for this. You are free to disagree out loud.
05 — Questions
Yes. No dues, no door fee, no offering plate, no upsell. Gym time and food are covered by Church Jam and partner churches.
No. Register once and you're set for the next twelve months. You'll get a QR code after you submit — save it to your phone. Every week you just walk in, scan at the door, and go get shots up. No line, no paperwork, no signing anything again.
We'll text you the location and any week we have to move.
Doesn't matter. We mix teams every week, so a guy who played college ball and a guy who's never played organized ball end up on the same side. If you can get up and down the floor, you'll get run.
No. Come hoop. Ten minutes at the end is a man reading a passage and saying what he thinks it means. You can push back, ask a question, or say nothing at all.
[Location TBA] in Augusta. Register and we'll text you the address before the next run, plus any week we have to move.
Yes, but a parent or legal guardian has to complete the registration form for you — not you. They'll be agreeing to the waiver on your behalf.
None. We've got guys in their twenties and guys in their fifties. Nobody's checking your birthday except for the 16 minimum.
Please do — that's how this grows. Just have him register first so we have a waiver on file before he steps on the floor.
Come when you can. There's no attendance requirement and nobody's keeping a chart. Miss a month and walk back in like you never left.
Basketball carries real risk and you're accepting that when you register. Church Jam does not provide medical insurance for players — yours is primary. The full terms are linked on the registration form.
06 — Register
One time, about three minutes, then you're set for the year. You'll get a QR code to save on your phone — scan it at the door every week and walk straight in. If you're under 18, have a parent or guardian fill this out.
Trouble with the form? Email [email protected] and we'll register you by hand.
